Project Description
The Coral Villa is a striking response to the hot and humid tropical climate, skillfully blending environmental considerations with design aesthetics. Inspired by local coral forms, the villa’s façade features fiber concrete screens etched with a coral pattern. These screens serve as a sustainable, functional feature—allowing breezes to flow through while blocking harsh sunlight and glare. They provide privacy for the inhabitants and contribute to the home's unique identity. The challenge was to create a home that is both open to nature and responsive to the climate, offering comfort while remaining environmentally conscious.
The villa’s design takes full advantage of its tropical surroundings, with thoughtful consideration of seasonal climate conditions. During summer, strategic placement of trees both inside and outside reduces solar heat gain, while natural materials like wood and stone on the façade minimize heat absorption and establish a bold visual presence. In the winter months, the backyard is sheltered, creating a calm, pleasant atmosphere and minimizing the impact of noise from air traffic. The building’s orientation protects the garden from strong winds and storms. The villa’s organization of form and space uses simple shapes, varied levels, and thoughtful zoning to create playful yet functional areas. The first level is designed for entertainment, the second for family interaction, and the third as a private sanctuary. Set in a beautiful natural location, the villa enhances its surroundings, allowing architecture to become a voice for nature itself.
