Project Description
The Foliage House, set on a 22,800 sq. ft. plot in a developing suburb, derives its name from the lush greenery that originally adorned the site. Mature trees, including bamboo, cherry blossom, neem, chickoo, and mango, were integral to the design vision, as preserving them became a key priority. Instead of letting concrete dominate, the project was meticulously planned to harmonize with nature, creating a home that feels like an organic extension of its surroundings.
The design separates the house into two distinct masses: one dedicated to the kitchen, dining, and puja areas, and the other housing the living spaces, bedrooms, and formal sitting room. These are connected by a passage flanked by a courtyard on one side and a verandah on the other. As you enter through the wooden-clad entry, a double-height vestibule welcomes you, with the formal sitting area set apart for privacy. Surrounded by water and gardens, this space blurs the lines between indoors and outdoors. Central to the layout is a double-height living room, seamlessly connecting the spaces vertically and horizontally. The ground floor also includes a guest bedroom and a master suite with its own verandah and garden, shaded by mature trees that ensure a cool, tranquil retreat throughout the day.
