Project Description
Nestled in the dense residential fabric of Aluva, Kerala, this home offers a serene retreat from urban chaos. Designed for an NRI couple and their family of six, the house reflects their vision of intimate, personalized spaces that blend minimalism with rustic charm. Situated on a compact 10-cent corner plot bordered by trees and neighboring homes, the design maximizes the site while prioritizing natural light, ventilation, and greenery. Open planning seamlessly merges the family living, dining, and kitchen areas, all centering around a large internal courtyard. This inward-focused space, with its open-to-sky layout, features greenery, a water body, and a floating deck, creating a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling surroundings.
The entry is marked by a striking hanging concrete planter box, leading to a thoughtfully curated interior where neutral palettes enhance the uncluttered aesthetic. Expansive doors and windows frame views of the retained exterior landscape, complementing the openness of the design. Skylights, ventilator slits, and floating roofs contribute to the home’s passive cooling system, maintaining comfort and sustainability. This residence is a harmonious balance of function and tranquility, embodying modern minimalism while adapting beautifully to its compact, complex context.
