Great Design Begins With a Simple Conversation - Let’s Talk!

Project Description

The Hillside House, nestled on a west-facing hillside near Hue City, Vietnam, is a design that celebrates the inherent beauty of its natural surroundings. The site, with its gradually descending slope and lush green gardens, inspired a simple yet elegant design that enhances the view of the rolling hillsides. The house is strategically positioned at the highest point of the site, with two stacked stories that capture the breathtaking landscape. A pathway cut into the slope leads to a basement, providing access for family vehicles to the core of the home. Landscaped walkways guide visitors from the slope to the hall and a BBQ yard, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and the surrounding terrain.

The architectural design consists of two stacked boxes, with interwoven solid voids that maximize ventilation and natural light throughout the home. These voids allow for continuous views of the landscape, adding depth and dimension to the space. A mezzanine, created by the elevation difference between the basement and first floor, serves as a terrace that connects the house with the hillsides, offering a harmonious flow between the interior and the exterior. The second floor extends over the first floor and mezzanine, strategically controlling sunlight and creating shaded areas on the lower levels. These shaded spaces, along with the gap between the second and mezzanine floors, enhance airflow, naturally ventilating and cooling the home while fostering a strong connection to the surrounding environment.
