Project Description
"Nostalgia" is a tranquil abode nestled amidst the lush tropical greenery of Thrissur, Kerala, embodying the timeless human connection to nature. Designed on a sloping site with a road bordering its southern edge, the 2,700 sq. ft. residence harmoniously blends into the natural landscape. By strategically positioning the home along the incline, only the roof and partial fenestration are visible from the road, minimizing its visual scale and complementing the rustic surroundings. Rooted in family heritage, the design draws inspiration from the client’s cherished memories of their grandparents' home while reimagining traditional elements to suit a modern, easygoing lifestyle.
The house integrates the vernacular essence of a nalukettu with its courtyards, long corridors, verandahs, and dynamic rooflines combining flat slabs and pitched forms. Arranged in a C-shape, the home features an open northern face, creating a spacious central courtyard that floods the interiors with natural light and ventilation. This green heart, complete with verdant surroundings and a serene waterbody, houses a cozy living room, offering a perfect retreat for relaxation. The design weaves tradition and modernity seamlessly, fostering an inviting environment that celebrates simplicity, warmth, and connection to its natural and cultural roots.
