Project Description

The design for this residence aims to balance the aspirations of a modern, luxurious lifestyle with the traditions of a joint family, situated within the constraints of a compact, narrow plot. Measuring only 28 feet wide and 45 feet long, with limited setbacks and a shared wall at the rear, the challenge was to create a sense of spaciousness while ensuring privacy and connectivity among the large family. Natural light and ventilation were prioritized, relying on the north-facing façade and overhead light to provide daylighting throughout the house.

The building form is defined by a minimalist aesthetic, featuring a restrained material palette of glass, exposed concrete, and white plaster. The proportions and scale of the design were influenced by the Golden Rectangle, ensuring harmony and balance. The front façade includes tall windows that span two floors, allowing ample natural light to penetrate deep into the interior. Mild steel vertical louvers, clad with Fundermax, enhance the façade’s appearance while providing security and shading. Skylights above a double-height internal court further enhance the home's daylighting, while also allowing hot air to escape through perforated metal sheets, ensuring natural ventilation. With thoughtful design elements such as open plans, double heights, metal jaali screens, and suspended ceiling planes, the 2000 square feet of space is optimized to accommodate the large family while enhancing the sense of openness and connection within the home.
